Doctors Without Borders reiterates call for immediate cease-fire in Gaza

Association says cease-fire needed to stop ‘bloodshed’ in Gaza Strip

By Anadolu staff

ISTANBUL (AA) – Doctors Without Borders (MSF) called late Sunday for a cease-fire in the Gaza Strip to prevent continued bloodshed.

“We reiterate our call for a cease-fire, now more than ever, to stop the bloodshed that is happening,” the France-based international organization said in a statement on the X platform.

The NGO said that following an Israeli airstrike on Saturday “about half a mile away from Nasser Hospital in Khan Younis where MSF teams are working, 122 patients arrived at the hospital within minutes.” It said that upon arrival, 70 people were dead.

“In the burn unit, surgeons are doing around 10 burn surgeries a day. Yet the hospital is overflowing with hundreds of patients with burns waiting to be operated upon,” MSF said.

This comes as the Israeli army continues to launch daily raids on the southern Gaza Strip, despite declaring it a “safe zone” while demanding civilians head south.

Since Israel started bombarding Gaza on Oct. 7, at least 13,000 Palestinians have been killed, including over 9,000 women and children, and more than 30,000 others have been injured, according to the latest figures.

Thousands of buildings, including hospitals, mosques and churches, have also been damaged or destroyed in Israel’s relentless air and ground attacks on the besieged enclave.

An Israeli blockade has also cut Gaza off from fuel, electricity and water supplies, and reduced aid deliveries to a small trickle.

The Israeli death toll, meanwhile, is around 1,200, according to official figures.
