Dutch striker Weghorst moves to Ajax from Burnley

Wout Weghorst, 32, inks contract effective immediately that will run until 2026

ISTANBUL (AA) – ISTANBUL (AA) – Wout Weghorst has moved to Ajax from Burnley FC on a deal that will last until June 30, 2026, Ajax confirmed on Thursday.

"I have played here before, also with the national team. But this time, walking in felt a little different. I am super happy and incredibly proud," Weghorst said in a statement on X.

Technical director Alex Kroes heaped praise on Weghorst in a separate statement, saying: "Wout stands for an absolute top sports experience, and we find that extremely important at Ajax. He is a prolific striker who constantly makes things difficult for every opponent. There are many matches coming up in the next few months, so we are happy that Wout is joining us."

Weghorst previously made appearances for AZ Alkmaar, Wolfsburg, Besiktas, Manchester United, and TSG Hoffenheim.

He helped Manchester United win the 2023 English League Cup.

The 32-year-old made his debut for the Dutch national team in 2018 and scored 12 goals in 39 matches.
