England manager Gareth Southgate announced the preliminary squad for the European Championship (UEFA EURO 2024) on Tuesday as notable players were kept off the roster.

England confirmed on Instagram their initial squad for the summer's EURO 2024 that will begin in June in Germany.

Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford, Ajax midfielder Jordan Henderson and Chelsea winger Raheem Sterling were not selected by Southgate.

In addition, Jadon Sancho, a Borussia Dortmund forward, was not included in the Three Lions' initial squad.

Newcastle United's Anthony Gordon seemed to benefit from the absence of Rashford and Sterling as he may earn his third cap for England.

Separately, it could be Henderson's last chance to wear the national team’s jersey at age 33.

His drop-off may have opened the door for Crystal Palace's young midfielder Adam Wharton to make his maiden international appearance.

Liverpool's Curtis Jones and Jarell Quansah, Everton's Jarrad Branthwaite and Burnley goalkeeper James Trafford are the other uncapped players on the preliminary squad.

England, who were the EURO 2020 runners-up, said that it will reveal their final 26-man squad for the EURO 2024 on June 8.
