Toffees drop to Premier League's relegation zone

Everton received a 10-point deduction from the English Premier League on Friday for violating profit and sustainability rules.

"An independent Commission has imposed an immediate deduction of 10 points on Everton FC for a breach of the Premier League’s Profitability and Sustainability Rules (PSRs)," the English Premier League statement read.

With only four points remaining, Everton dropped to the 19th position in the Premier League table. The Toffees will face Manchester United in the league on Nov. 26 at their home ground, Goodison Park, following the international break.

"During the proceedings, the Club admitted it was in breach of the PSRs for the period ending Season 2021/22 but the extent of the breach remained in dispute.

"Following a five-day hearing last month, the Commission determined that Everton FC’s PSR Calculation for the relevant period resulted in a loss of £124.5million, as contended by the Premier League, which exceeded the threshold of £105million permitted under the PSRs. The Commission concluded that a sporting sanction in the form of a 10-point deduction should be imposed. That sanction has immediate effect," the Premier League added.

Everton expressed their shock and disappointment at the ruling by the Premier League's Commission and stated their intention to appeal the decision.

Founded in 1878, Everton, a Liverpool-based club, won the English title nine times but has never done it in the Premier League era began in 1992.

Separately the Toffees are the archrivals of Liverpool.
