ANKARA (AA) – Fenerbahce Beko dismissed their Greek head coach Dimitris Itoudis on Wednesday.
The Turkish basketball club said on X that it parted ways with Itoudis, who has been in charge since 2022, and thanked the 53-year-old for his contributions to Fenerbahce and wished him best in his career.
Itoudis' dismissal came after Fenerbahce Beko's losses to Baskonia Vitoria-Gasteiz by 80-79 and Barcelona by 89-81 in the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague's double-round week on Dec. 6 and 8.
Before the defeats at Baskonia and Barcelona in the Rounds 12 and 13, Itoudis' men ended Real Madrid's 10-0 start to the season, beating the Spanish leaders 100-99 in overtime in a round 11 thriller on Nov. 30 in Istanbul.
This season, Fenerbahce Beko are in the 12th spot in EuroLeague standings, with six wins to seven losses.
The Turkish side were the 2017 EuroLeague champions and want to revive their Final Four hopes in the tournament by changing their head coach.
Last season, under helm of Itoudis, Fenerbahce Beko reached the EuroLeague Playoffs, a knockout phase prior to the Final Four.
Itoudis guided CSKA Moscow to the EuroLeague victory twice in 2016 and 2019.
He previously coached the Greek national team.
