Fenerbahce upset fans with poor derby form in 2020

ANKARA (AA) - Turkish Super Lig title contenders Fenerbahce's long unbeaten runs at home over the rivals Besiktas, Galatasaray, and Trabzonspor have ended in 2020.

Fenerbahce's poor form over the rivals upset their fans since the beginning of 2020.

Besiktas defeated Fenerbahce 4-3 at the Ulker Stadium on Sunday to end a 15-year winless spell as the Black Eagles' last win against Fenerbahce was recorded on April 17, 2005, with the same score, 4-3.

Besiktas secured a derby win with Vincent Aboubakar (2), Necip Uysal, and Fabrice N'Sakala.

Following this defeat, Fenerbahçe lost 2 matches in a row at home after 27 seasons in the league. In the last home game before playing against Besiktas, Fenerbahce were beaten by Ittifak Holding Konyaspor 2-0.

The Istanbul club lost to Trabzonspor 1-0 and Galatasaray 4-1 in successive home matches in the 1992-1993 season.

Galatasaray gained a remarkable 3-1 victory against Fenerbahce on Feb. 23, 2020, to end a more than a 20-year curse in Turkey's intercontinental derby.

Ryan Donk, Radamel Falcao, and Henry Onyekuru's goals sealed a derby victory at Fenerbahce’s stadium after more than 20 years.

Galatasaray failed to record an away win against Fenerbahce for 23 games until this victory as they had earned their last win on Dec 22, 1999, with 2-1.

- Trabzonspor manage to secure their 1st win over Fenerbahce in Istanbul since 1997

Yellow Canaries' fans are also disappointed with the team's poor performance this year in the Turkish Cup match against another title contender, Trabzonspor.

Trabzonspor's 23-year winless run against Fenerbahce in Kadikoy ended after they toppled the Istanbul side 3-1 in the Ziraat Turkey Cup semi-final second leg game on June 16, 2020.

Alexander Sorloth (2), Filip Novak netted for Trabzonspor to lead their team to the Turkish Cup final.

The away team also defeated Fenerbahce 2-1 in the first leg.

Trabzonspor beat Fenerbahce 3-1 in the league on Aug. 1997 in the last match before their winless streak in Istanbul began.

- Fenerbahce put in a disappointing performance in derby matches this year

Not only in home games but also all derby matches, Fenerbahce failed to meet expectations and put in a disappointing performance this year. In the second half of the last season in the Super Lig, Fenerbahce lost to Besiktas 2-0 in Vodafone Park on July 19, and Trabzonspor 2-1 on Feb. 1.

This season, the Istanbul derby between Galatasaray and Fenerbahce ended in a 0-0 draw at Turk Telekom Stadium on Sep. 27.

The only win of the year for Fenerbahce against these three clubs came against Trabzonspor after beating the Black Sea club 3-1 at home on 25 Oct. in the 2020-2021 season.
