ISTANBUL (AA) – During a meeting with Japan’s Prime Minister Fumio Kishida on Friday, Filipino President Ferdinand Marcos expressed his eagerness to strengthen cooperation between Manila and Tokyo in various critical areas.

In a bilateral meeting at the Malacanan Palace, President Marcos emphasized the importance of expanding cooperation, particularly in the fields of economic development, development cooperation, and security cooperation, the Philippines' Presidential Communications Office reported.

“Our meeting today builds upon the momentum of the recent past, and we look forward to expanding cooperation with you, especially in key areas,” Marcos stated.

He acknowledged the commencement of trilateral engagements involving the Philippines, Japan, and the US this year and expressed his desire to continue and broaden this form of engagement to cover other equally significant areas.

The Philippines and Japan marked the 67th anniversary of the normalization of their diplomatic relations in July.

Kishida is on a two-day official visit to the Philippines.
