Football: Manchester City win Premier League title

ANKARA (AA) - Manchester City on Sunday won English Premier League title after their nearest rivals in the league table Manchester United lost against West Bromwich Albion 1-0 at home on Sunday.

League leaders Manchester City, who beat Tottenham Hotspur 3-1 on Saturday, raised their points to 87 in standings.

Manchester United, who are in the second spot, have 71 points, the gap is 16 points after the matchday 33. So Manchester City guaranteed to win the title with five matches to spare.

Manchester City bagged the Premier League for the fifth time in history as they previously won it in 1937, 1968, 2012 and 2014.

Meanwhile, Manchester United congratulated their city rivals on social media.

"Congratulations to Manchester City on their Premier League title win.", Man Utd said on its official Twitter account.

"Unbelievable season for us. Very happy to call us champions this year.", Manchester City's Belgian star Kevin De Bruyne said on Twitter to show his delight.

"Champions!!!!!! What a great feeling!! So happy to be able to share another trophy with our amazing fans! #ManCity #SharkTeam #Champions.", Man City captain Vincent Kompany stated on social media upon the team's victory in the league.
