ANKARA (AA) - Werder Bremen's Peruvian forward Claudio Pizarro ended his football career at 41 on Tuesday.
"Claudio Pizarro has finally hung up his boots after more than two decades, over 400 appearances and nearly 200 goals in the Bundesliga, and all after his talents were spotted through a hole in a fence in Lima," German top-tier division Bundesliga said on its website.
Pizarro started his career at Academia Deportiva Cantolao in Peru. Before moving to Europe, he played for other Peruvian clubs Deportivo Pesquero Chimbote and Club Alianza Lima.
While he was in Europe, he largely played in Germany, appearing for Werder Bremen, Bayern Munich and Koln as well as English powerhouse Chelsea.
Pizarro scored 281 goals in 695 club matches, and netted 20 goals for his nation.
He won the 2013 UEFA Champions League with Bayern Munich.
Pizarro also helped Die Bayern win six Bundesliga titles (2003, 2005, 2006, 2013, 2014 and 2015).
