ANKARA (AA) - Demaryius Thomas, a former NFL player and Super Bowl champion, died on Thursday, police said. He was 33.
"Thomas was found deceased in his home on Thursday night, the Roswell (Georgia) Police Department confirmed in a statement to NFL Media," the NFL (National Football League) said in a statement on Friday.
"Preliminary information is that Thomas' death stems from a medical issue, and Roswell PD investigators currently have no reason to believe otherwise," it added.
Thomas was a wide receiver at the Denver Broncos, Houston Texans, New England Patriots and New York Jets.
He was a longtime Broncos player (2010-2018), and won the Super Bowl 50 title in 2016.
"We are devastated and completely heartbroken. Demaryius' humility, warmth, kindness and infectious smile will always be remembered by those who knew him and loved him," the Broncos said on Twitter.
Thomas, who was named as NFL Pro Bowler or the league's All-Star for four times, retired from professional football in June. He would have been 34 on Dec. 25.
