France registers 71 new deaths from COVID-19

PARIS (AA) - France ended the weekend on a positive note, with yet another drop in fatalities on Sunday in the number of coronavirus cases, with only a slight rise in infections.
The latest numbers were reported by the country’s Ministry of Health.
Since the start of the outbreak, the death toll in France stands at 26,380 with the total number of cases reaching 139,063.
On Sunday there were 71 fatalities, 10 less cases than that on Saturday. As many as 70 people died in hospitals, while one person was reported to have succumbed to the disease a nursing home.
The total number of fatalities in hospital to date is 16,642 and the total number of deaths in a nursing home is 9,738.
The number of hospitalizations rose a bit on Sunday, with cases standing now at 22,569, an increase of 22 patients over Saturday. The number of those in intensive care fell to 2,776, down by 36 patients.
Despite the severity of the virus, most people experience mild symptoms and recover. Since the beginning of record-keeping for the disease, 56,217people have recovered in France from the epidemic and have returned home.
After originating in China last December, COVID-19, the disease caused by the coronavirus, has spread to 187 countries and regions across the world. Europe and the US are currently the worst-hit regions.
The pandemic has killed over 281,200 people, with total infections reaching over 4.07 million, while more than 1.39 million people have recovered from the disease, according to figures compiled by the US-based Johns Hopkins University.
