ANKARA (AA) - Fulham forward Aleksandar Mitrovic was suspended Tuesday for eight matches for his violent behavior against a referee during an English FA Cup match against Manchester United last month.
"Aleksandar Mitrovic should be suspended for a total of eight games, one of which he has already served. He should also pay a £75,000 (at least $93,700) fine," Fulham said in a statement.
An Independent Regulatory Commission sanctioned Mitrovic after a hearing. He was shown a straight red card for pushing referee Chris Kavanagh.
The FA confirmed on its website that Mitrovic admitted his behavior and using "improper, abusive, insulting and threatening" language after being sent off.
Fulham manager Marco Silva, who was also sent off during the match, will serve a " touchline ban for two games," and was fined £40,000.
"The Club should be fined £40,000 for the failure to prevent its players surrounding the referee," Fulham added.
Manchester United beat Fulham 3-1 at Old Trafford to reach the FA Cup semifinals.
In minute 72, Fulham winger Willian handballed on the goal line. Kavanagh sent him off and awarded the Red Devils a penalty.
Mitrovic argued with the referee and was shown a red card for pushing the official.
Manchester United will face Brighton & Hove Albion in the semifinal April 23 at Wembley Stadium in London.
