ATHENS (AA) – Greek main opposition SYRIZA party reiterated on Thursday the call for an immediate start of negotiations for a two-state solution to the Israel-Palestine conflict.

“Our position is more than clear; we ask for an immediate ceasefire, the release of all hostages, unrestricted flow of humanitarian aid to Gaza, as well as the resumption of negotiations for the two-state solution that will lead to independent Palestine within the borders of 1967 and East Jerusalem its capital,” lawmaker Rena Douru, the party’s head of international department, said in a statement to Anadolu.

In particular reference to visit to West Bank earlier this week by a party delegation led by its president, Stefanos Kasselakis, the statement stressed the visit intended to show solidarity with Palestinians.

The delegation also visited the Aida refugee camp in Bethlehem, where it had a chance to witness the "harsh" conditions and meet numerous senior Palestinian officials.

Israel has launched a brutal offensive on the Gaza Strip since Oct. 7, 2023 killing more than 36,000 people, injuring many more and reducing the territory to rubble. The onslaught has also left most civilians homeless and at risk of famine.
