ANKARA (AA) - German manager Jurgen Klinsmann has been appointed as a new manager of Hertha Berlin to replace a Croatian-German head coach Ante Covic.
The Bundesliga side Hertha Berlin has announced the hiring of Klinsmann in a statement posted on their website on Wednesday.
“Ante Covic is no longer head coach of Hertha BSC. After intensive discussions, sporting director Michael Preetz and Covic agreed a mutual termination of his contract as head coach,” the club said.
The club added that Klinsmann will manage the team until the end of the 2019-2020 season.
Hertha Berlin disappointed their fans this season with unsatisfying league performance as they are currently at the 15th spot with 11 points.
The 55-year-old manager was hired as a German national team head coach in 2004.
The host country Germany finished the 2006 FIFA World Cup in a third-place under the helm of Klinsmann.
He lastly managed the U.S. national team from July 2011 to November 2016, leading them to a last-16 at the 2014 FIFA World Cup.
For his only club management experience, Klinsmann worked for the Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich during the 2008-2009 season, but he was sacked with five matches remaining of the season.
