Hezbollah member killed in clashes with Israeli forces on Lebanese border

BEIRUT (AA) – Lebanese group Hezbollah said Thursday that one of its fighters had been killed in clashes with Israeli forces near the border between Lebanon and Israel.

The group, however, did not provide any details about the circumstances leading to its member’s death.

Hezbollah also said that it had targeted a gathering of Israeli soldiers near the Shomera Barracks in southern Lebanon with “appropriate weapons.”

Israeli warplanes carried out airstrikes in the border towns of Jabal Kehail and Aitaroun in southern Lebanon, eyewitnesses said.

There were no reports yet of casualties.

Tension has flared along the border between Lebanon and Israel amid intermittent exchange of fire between Israeli forces and Hezbollah in the deadliest clashes since the two sides fought a full-scale war in 2006.

At least 104 Hezbollah members have been killed since the clashes first erupted on Oct. 8, according to figures released by the group.

The border tension comes amid an Israeli military offensive in the Gaza Strip following a cross-border attack by Hamas on Oct. 7.
