Hosts France upset Nigeria 75-54 to advance to quarterfinals in women's basketball

ISTANBUL (AA) - Host nation France defeated Nigeria 75-54 in their second group B game of the 2024 Paris Olympics to advance to the quarterfinals on Thursday.

Marine Johannes scored 15 points and Gabby Williams netted 14 points for the French national basketball team at Pierre Mauroy Stadium.

Ezinne Kalu was the highest scorer of the game with 18 points and Murjanatu Musa added 14 points and nine rebounds.​​​​​​​

France will take on Australia, and Nigeria will face winless Canada in their final group B games on Aug. 4.

- US beat Belgium 87-74

Team USA beat Belgium 87-74 at the same venue in the second game of Group C.

Breanna Stewart produced 26 points and seven rebounds and A'ja Wilson made a double-double with 23 points and 13 rebounds to combine for 49 points to lead their squad to victory.

Emma Meesseman scored 24 points for Belgium, but her effort was not enough to win against the Americans.

In Group C, Team USA and Germany qualified for the quarterfinals with two wins.

On Aug. 4, Japan will take on Belgium and Germany will face the United States to decide the group winner.
