ISTANBUL (AA) - Iga Swiatek, the world no. 1 in women's singles, on Thursday defeated Coco Gauff in a straight-sets victory to advance to the French Open final.
"It was intense, in the second set, it was kind of tight because we were breaking each other, but I'm glad I was consistent in my tactics and just went for it in the end," Swiatek said after the victory.
The 23-year-old Polish player claimed the semifinal with sets of 6-2 and 6-4 in one hour and 37 minutes on Paris’ Court Philippe-Chatrier.
"Something changed, I just adjusted better to the court and it's not easy to play the first matches at a Grand Slam because the atmosphere is much different to other tournaments," she added.
Swiatek, who reached the fourth consecutive final of Roland Garros, will face the winner of the Mirra Andreeva vs. Jasmine Paolini game in Saturday’s final.
She won the 2020, 2022, and 2023 titles and is one win away from a fourth Roland Garros title.
