NEW DELHI (AA) - India on Tuesday began hosting the first phase of its largest multinational air exercise that is witnessing participation of air force units from nearly 30 countries.
Tarang Shakti, the multinational exercise, will bring together India's Friendly Foreign Countries (FFCs), promoting international cooperation and enhancing collective security capabilities, the Indian Air Force said on Tuesday.
German Ambassador to India Philipp Ackermann said that it is Germany’s first joint exercise with India on the subcontinent.
“Very exciting to witness it on the ground - and in the air!,” he wrote on X.
It showcases “our deepened partnership with India, for a secure and prosperous region, together with our European friends,” Ackermann added.
Last month, the Indian Air Force had said the first phase of the exercise will be held in Sulur, southern Tamil Nadu state, on Aug. 6-14, and the second phase will be held on Aug. 29-Sept. 14 in northern Rajasthan state.
According to the Indian Air Force, 51 countries were invited to take part in the exercise and nearly 30 of them will be taking part in it. While 10 countries are joining the exercise with their fighter aircraft, 18 are participating as observers.
