ANKARA (AA) - The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) reduced a suspension for Ajax goalie Andre Onana to nine months on Thursday from an initial 12.
The European governing body for football, UEFA, gave Onana a one-year ban in February for violating doping rules for furosemide that was found in a urine test.
On Oct. 30, 2020, Onana tested positive for the drug, that included a prohibited active ingredient.
He appealed the decision and claimed he used the drug when he felt sick without knowing it contained a banned substance.
Onana's appeal was partially accepted by CAS.
"In coming to its decision, the CAS Panel also found that no 'significant fault' could be attributed to Andre Onana who had ingested medication destined for another person in error," said the court.
It said the 25-year-old Cameroonian goalkeeper's sentence will expire Nov. 3.
