Iran to face Japan in semifinals

ISTANBUL (AA) - Iran defeated China on Thursday to advance to the semifinals of the AFC Asian Cup.

Iran’s goals came from Mehdi Taremi in the 18 minute, Sardar Azmoun at the 31 minute and Kerim Ansarifard netted one in the last minute for the 3-0 final.

Iran will face Japan in the semifinals after the four-time chams blanked Vietnam 1-0 to advance.

The other quarters will be played Saturday with Korea squaring off against Qatar. The UAE will go against Australia.

The semifinals will be played Jan. 28-29, and the final match will be held Feb. 1.

The 2019 AFC Asian Cup is the men's football championship of Asia organized by the Asian Football Confederation (AFC).

The 17th edition of the Cup kicked off Jan. 5 in the UAE.
