Israeli artillery targets Nasser Medical Complex: Gaza Health Ministry
Shelling results in killing of young girl
By Rania Abu Shamala
GAZA CITY, Palestine (AA) - Nasser Medical Complex in the city of Khan Younis in the southern of the Gaza Strip was subjected to Israeli artillery shelling overnight which resulted in the death of a young girl, the Palestinian Ministry of Health in Gaza announced Monday.
The ministry said in a brief statement on Telegram that 13-year-old Donia Abu Mohsen “was martyred and joined all her family members after the maternity building in Nasser Medical Complex was targeted,” it said.
According to the ministry, Donia lost her parents and all her siblings in the war, and she remained alone after losing a leg in a previous Israeli airstrike.
The ministry had previously appealed for the provision of a prosthetic limb for her, hoping to provide her with a normal life.
The Director-General of Nasser Hospital, Mohammed Zaqout, characterized this assault on the hospital as “a deliberate Israeli attempt to dismantle every facet of life in Gaza.”
Earlier, Anadolu conducted an interview with Donia at Nasser Hospital.
“They bombed our house. We were asleep at home, and we didn't hear the first strike. We woke up to find fire. We were scared. We didn't know how to escape. After that, they hit us with a second missile, then another one.”
“When I woke up, I found everything in ruins -- stones, blood, dust and fire. Despite the devastation, I wasn't afraid. My father and my sister were beside me. The people brought me to the hospital after rescuing me while I was still asleep. Some people came to perform surgery on me. I had an amputation in my leg,” she added.
“My mother, father, little brother Mohammed and my little sister Dalia were martyred. I hope to travel and get a prosthetic limb so that I can walk like everyone else.”
The ministry posted photos on its Telegram account of the destruction at Nasser Medical Complex.
They showed the extent of the damage caused by the shelling to the hospital’s facilities, including the collapse of a wall of one of the hospital rooms and the destruction of the contents of some rooms, including beds and medical equipment.
The Palestinian news agency WAFA reported earlier in the day about the “death of a citizen and the injury of others” in the Israeli shelling of the medical complex on Sunday evening.
The agency quoted local sources as saying that “a wounded citizen who was receiving treatment in the hospital was martyred and others, including women and children, were injured due to the Israeli occupation's artillery targeting a building in Nasser Medical Complex.”
