JERUSALEM (AA) - Israeli police said Thursday that a security guard was injured in a suspected car-ramming incident at a checkpoint in northern occupied East Jerusalem.
Police said in a statement that the incident took place at the Israeli military Qalandia checkpoint and the suspect Palestinian attacker was arrested at the site.
It said the security guard suffered light wounds to his lower limbs and was taken to hospital.
Further Israeli reinforcement arrived at the scene and began to investigate, said the statement. The checkpoint was later closed to movement by Palestinians, according to witnesses.
No Palestinian group has commented on the incident.
Tensions have been running high across the West Bank in recent months amid repeated Israeli raids into Palestinian towns.
More than 200 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli fire since the start of 2023, according to the Palestinian Health Ministry. At least 35 Israelis have also been killed in Palestinian attacks during the same period, the highest Israeli toll since 2005.
