Italy get surprise draw against Switzerland in World Cup Qualifications

ANKARA (AA) - Italy played to a surprise 1-1 draw Friday against Switzerland in a Group C match in the FIFA World Cup Qualifications.

Nati drew first blood early Silvan Widmer in the 11th minute at Stadio Olimpico, Rome.

Azurri equalized with Giovanni Di Lorenzo's goal in the 36th minute and that was all the scoring in the match.

Both sides missed a huge chance to take the lead in Group C as they currently have 15 points each, Italy is at the top of the group and ahead of Switzerland by two goals.

Only one match is left for each side. Italy will take on Northern Ireland while Switzerland will play Bulgaria in the last round of the group stage on Monday.
