ANKARA (AA) – Italy’s Jannik Sinner on Sunday won the 2024 Australian Open men's singles, his very first Grand Slam title.

Sinner, the world No. 4, came back against Russian third seed Daniil Medvedev, winning the final in Melbourne with 3-6, 3-6, 6-4, 6-4, 6-3 sets as the showdown at Rod Laver Arena lasted for three hours and 44 minutes.

During Sunday's nail-biting final, Medvedev made 57 unforced errors, but 2024 champion Sinner had fewer.

In the semis, Sinner on Friday eliminated 10-time Australian Open champion Novak Djokovic from Serbia to play his first major final.

Sinner, 22, became the first Italian to secure an Australian Open singles title.

Medvedev, the 2021 US Open champion, appearing in his sixth Grand Slam final, lost another Australian Open final.

The 27-year-old was the 2021 and 2022 finalist in Melbourne.
