ANKARA (AA) - Utah Jazz shooting guard Donovan Mitchell will not be able to play in Sunday’s 2022 NBA All-Star Game due to a respiratory illness.
"It is a great honor and has always been a dream of mine to be selected as an NBA All-Star. Remorsefully, I will not be able to play in tonight’s All-Star Game due to an upper respiratory illness (which is non-COVID-related)," Mitchell, 25, said in a statement.
A three-time NBA All-Star, Mitchell was previously selected for the Team LeBron reserves.
He has been a Jazz player since 2017.
Mitchell was named in the 2018 NBA All-Rookie first team.
This season, he averaged 25.7 points, 5.2 assists and 4.2 rebounds per game for the Jazz.
The NBA All-Star weekend will conclude after Sunday's game between Team LeBron and Team Durant, which is the main course of the annual event.
The 71st NBA All-Star Game in Cleveland's Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse will start at 8 p.m. Eastern Time (0100GMT Monday).
