Jude Bellingham named Bundesliga Player of the Season

Borussia Dortmund midfielder 'enjoyed a fantastic year' and 'his performances are worthy or recognition,' German league says

ANKARA (AA) - Germany's Borussia Dortmund midfielder Jude Bellingham was on Monday named the Bundesliga Player of the Season 2022-23.

The 19-year-old, who was also included in the Bundesliga Team of the Season, was the leader of Dortmund's stand-out 2022-23 season campaign, in which they missed the title chance in the last game of the season.

"Bellingham’s season may not have ended as he would have wanted, but he still enjoyed a fantastic year," the German football league said. "His performances are worthy of recognition, which is why he's been voted the best player in the official Bundesliga Team of the Season and therefore takes the crown of Player of the Season."

The English international scored eight goals and provided four assists in 31 matches of the season.

The young England international shined with his athleticism as he was in the division’s top 10 for sprints (861) and intensive runs (2473), and covered more distance (322 km) than any of his teammates.

He also wore the captain’s armband twice this term, becoming Dortmund’s youngest-ever skipper.

Bellingham joined Borussia Dortmund from English club Birmingham in July 2020.
