Juventus hit with 10-point penalty for transfer deals

Penalty leaves Turin football club seventh in Serie A standings, likely out of UEFA Champions League qualification

By Emre Asikci

ISTANBUL (AA) - Juventus lost 10 points in Serie A after a transfer fee scandal appeal, the Italian Football Federation (FIGC) confirmed Monday.

"Called upon by the Collegio di Garanzia dello Sport to renew its assessment on the penalty to be imposed on Juventus for the so-called 'capital gains case,’ the Corte Federale d'Appello, chaired by Ida Raiola, sanctioned the Bianconeri club with ten penalty points in the league table to be served in the current football season," FIGC said in a statement.

"The Court also acquitted Pavel Nedved, Paolo Garimberti, Assia Grazioli-Venier, Caitlin Mary Hughes, Daniela Marilungo, Francesco Roncaglio and Enrico Vellano of the charges," FIGC added.

The penalty left the Turin club five points behind fourth-place AC Milan and seventh in the Serie A table and also likely out of UEFA Champions League qualification.

The Turin Prosecutor's office started "the Prisma investigation" over their financial statements, with the Italian club accused of false accounting, market manipulation and false corporate disclosures.

The prosecutors especially claim that the Italian football side made use of several capital gains to cover gaps in financial statements from 2019 to 2021.

Juventus had been handed a 15-point deduction earlier this season but later had it overturned.

In addition, in October last year, Juventus announced that the entire board of directors of the club, including president Andrea Agnelli, had resigned over charges of false accounting.

Also, UEFA, the European football governing body, opened a formal investigation into Juventus for potential breaches of UEFA Club Licensing and Financial Fair Play regulations at the beginning of December last year.
