Lakers bids farewell to Staples Center with loss to Spurs

Los Angeles Lakers lose their last game at Staples Center as it will be renamed to Crypto.com Arena on Saturday

ANKARA (AA) - Los Angeles Lakers bid farewell to Staples Center with loss to San Antonio Spurs with a 110-138 score on Thursday.

Los Angeles Lakers' and Los Angeles Clippers' home court the Staples Center will be renamed Crypto.com Arena on Saturday.

Lakers tweeted about the history of the arena saying, "Wonderful memories and history are not erased with a name change. Let’s use this opportunity to remember so many happy times (Phil, Shaq, Kobe teams from day one!!) and let’s plan on making many more."

It seemed as history repeated itself for the Los Angeles team as they had lost their last game in their previous home ground -- The Great Western Forum -- to Spurs in 1999 NBA playoffs.

Spurs had defeated LA Lakers 118-107 in their last game at Great Western Forum, California on May 23, 1999 and reached 4-0 in NBA playoff series.

Spurs' Keita Bates-Diop scored a career-high 30 points while Derrick White contributed with 23 points to the victory.

LeBron James' 36 points and Russell Westbrook's 30 points were not enough to turn the tide for Lakers.
