Le Graet withdrawn from French Football Federation helm after 'clumsy' remarks about Zidane

ANKARA (AA) – Noel Le Graet on Wednesday was relieved of his duties as the French Football Federation (FFF) head by the extraordinary executive committee, French media reported.

Vice President Philippe Diallo will take over as the interim president for a fixed period, according to reports.

Le Graet was temporarily withdrawn from the helm of French Football Federation until an investigation into charges against him is completed.

Noel Le Graet, 81, was lately under fire for his dismissive comments about football legend Zinedine Zidane and allegedly improper conduct against female sports agent.

In a communique, Le Graet apologized Monday to Zidane, saying his "clumsy remarks have created a misunderstanding."

He told a French sports channel on Sunday that Zidane, 50, had never been approached to coach the French national team.

"Zidane to Brazil (national team)? I don't care. He does what he wants, that does not concern me. I have never met him (to talk). We have never considered parting with Didier (Deschamps)," Le Graet said.

Separately, French head coach Didier Deschamps' contract extension until 2026, which turned out problematic under Le Graet's helm, was validated unanimously by the executive committee on Wednesday, according to French media.
