Lewandowski extends contract with Bayern Munich

'I am convinced we will achieve lot in next few years,' Lewandowski says after signing new deal

ISTANBUL (AA) - Polish striker Robert Lewandowski extended his contract with Bayern Munich until 2023, the club said in a statement on Thursday.

"Bayern Munich and Robert Lewandowski agreed a contract extension through June 30, 2023," it added.

His contract was originally set to expire on June 30, 2021.

After signing the new deal, Robert Lewandowski said: "FC Bayern has become my sporting home. Besides, my family and I are happily settled in Munich. I am convinced we will achieve a lot in the next few years. FC Bayern are one of the three biggest clubs in the world, and we have an outstanding team. I am proud to be part of this club."

"For me, Robert is the world’s best center-forward, and he’s been a mainstay of our team for years. So we’re extremely pleased he’ll continue to play for FC Bayern for a long time. We’re certain that together with Robert we’ll achieve our ambitious goals in the upcoming season and in the years to come," Bayern Munich CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge said.

The 31-year-old striker joined Bayern from Borussia Dortmund before the 2014-2015 season.

He has scored 197 goals in 246 competitive matches for Bayern so far, coming third in the club’s all-time rankings.

"Only Gerd Muller on 508 goals and Karl-Heinz Rummenigge on 217 have scored more often," the club said.
