Liverpool draw 1-1 with English Premier League title rivals Manchester City at home

Draw leaves Arsenal at top of league on goal difference; title race among Arsenal, Liverpool, Man City still tight

Liverpool drew 1-1 with English Premier League title rivals Manchester City in a home match on Sunday.

Man City drew first blood at Liverpool's Anfield Stadium.

English defender John Stones scored an easy chance in the 23rd minute. Belgian star Kevin De Bruyne took a low corner to find Stones near the Liverpool goal. Stones, who lost his marker, finished in close range.

Liverpool were awarded a penalty in the early minutes of the second half as Man City goalkeeper Ederson fouled Reds forward Darwin Nunez in the area.

The Reds’ Argentine midfielder Alexis Mac Allister scored from the penalty spot in the 50th minute to level the match.

Following the foul on Nunez, Ederson left the pitch with an injury as a result. He was replaced by Stefan Ortega.

Liverpool were quite dominant in the second half but missed several chances.

Man City winger Jeremy Doku was in the area to hit the right post in the 89th minute.

Near the end of the match, Doku made a high kick on Mac Allister's chest in the area, but referee Michael Oliver did not award a penalty kick for this tackle.

The Liverpool vs. Man City clash ended 1-1.

The draw has left Arsenal at the top of the Premier League standings on goal difference. The title race among Arsenal, Liverpool and Man City is still tight.

Arsenal have 64 points in 28 matches to be the leaders. Liverpool are second with 64 points but scored less than Arsenal. Manchester City have 63 points to stay third.

In the next fixture, Arsenal will visit Man City on March 31.

Liverpool will face Brighton on the same day at Anfield Stadium.

Aston Villa have 55 points to be fourth in the standings. They lost to London's Tottenham Hotspur 4-0 in Birmingham on Sunday.

Fifth-place Tottenham increased their points to 53 in the league table.
