NEW DELHI (AA) – A local leader of the ruling Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) was shot dead in the Indian capital New Delhi on Wednesday evening, police said on Thursday.
Jeetu Chaudhary, 42, was a district-level BJP leader and was engaged in the real estate business.
In a statement, New Delhi police chief (East) Priyanka Kashyap said: “The victim was having gunshot injuries. People shifted the injured to a hospital in a private vehicle where he was declared dead.”
“A few empty cartridges and other important evidence have been recovered from the spot,” the statement said, adding police are looking for eyewitnesses and CCTV footage.
Eyewitnesses said four assailants on two motorbikes shot Chaudhary point-blank and fled, said a police official.
According to an official investigating the case, a business dispute may have been the reason behind this killing.
