Mallorca fan receives suspended sentence for racist insults against 2 footballers

Supporter also banned from attending any matches organized by Spanish league or Spanish Football Federation for 3 years

MADRID (AA) - A Mallorca fan who racially insulted Real Madrid's Vinicius Jr. and Villarreal's Samuel Chukwueze from the stands received a one-year suspended sentence Thursday from a Spanish court.

Administrative Court No. 3 of Palma de Mallorca closed the case against the supporter, who was found to have used racist insults during two matches in Mallorca on Feb. 5 and Feb. 18 last year.

The court also banned the fan from attending any matches organized by the Spanish league or Spanish Football Federation for three years.

The prison sentence was suspended after the fan said he was sorry for his actions, apologized to Vinícius Jr. in a letter and completed an anti-discrimination program.
