Man City skipper Fernandinho seals new deal with team

New deal to keep 36-year-old at Etihad Stadium until 2022

ANKARA (AA) - Manchester City captain Fernandinho extended his contract at the team for another year on Tuesday, according to the English football club.

"Fernandinho has signed a new one-year contract. The Manchester City captain has put pen to paper on a deal which keeps him at the Club until the summer of 2022, extending his stay at the Etihad Stadium into a ninth season," said a Manchester City statement.

The 36-year-old Brazilian defensive midfielder joined Manchester City in 2013.

He tallied 24 goals and 30 assists in 350 appearances for the English side and has won 12 trophies with the team including four English Premier League titles in 2014, 2018, 2019 and 2021.

Fernandinho played for Shakhtar Donetsk before joining Manchester City.

The experienced midfielder helped the Ukrainian club win the 2009 UEFA Cup in Istanbul.

He played for Brazil in the 2014 and 2018 FIFA World Cup tournaments.
