Manchester United, Newcastle United reach League Cup semis

ANKARA (AA) - Manchester United and Newcastle United advanced to the English League Cup (Carabao Cup) semifinals Tuesday.

Man Utd beat Charlton Athletic 3-0 in the quarterfinals as Antony scored the opener in the 21st minute at Old Trafford.

English forward Marcus Rashford added two late goals for Manchester United to make the result 3-0 for the Red Devils.

Manchester United, who have not secured a major trophy since 2017, were into the semifinal stage.

Meanwhile, in the other quarterfinal match, Newcastle United beat Leicester City 2-0 at St James' Park with second-half goals scored by Dan Burn and Joelinton.

Now backed by Saudi owners, Newcastle United have not won a domestic trophy for 68 years.

The Magpies won the 1955 FA Cup, which is still their last domestic success.

On Wednesday, Nottingham Forest will face Wolverhampton Wanderers, and Manchester City will visit Southampton in the Carabao Cup quarterfinals.
