Manchester United's Brazilian midfielder Casemiro is set to be sidelined for "several weeks" due to a hamstring injury, the English Premier League club said on Friday.
"Casemiro will be out for several weeks due to a hamstring injury suffered during our Carabao Cup defeat to Newcastle United on Wednesday," the club said in a statement.
Visitors Newcastle United won the match 3-0 at Old Trafford to qualify for the Carabao Cup quarterfinals.
"The Brazilian midfielder was withdrawn at half-time due to the issue, and subsequent assessment has revealed a strain that will keep him out for a number of weeks," the English club added.
Casemiro now joins Lisandro Martinez, Luke Shaw, Tyrell Malacia, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, and Amad Diallo on the list of other injured Manchester United players.
Third-place Manchester United are set to visit Copenhagen in a UEFA Champions League Group A fixture on Nov. 8 as Casemiro will be ineligible due to his injury.
The 31-year-old defensive midfielder may also miss another Champions League away fixture against Istanbul's Galatasaray on Nov. 29, which is expected to be a critical match for both clubs.
This season, Casemiro scored four goals in 12 matches for Manchester United.
Casemiro was a longtime Real Madrid midfielder to win five UEFA Champions League titles and be crowned Spanish La Liga champion with the Whites three times.
In 2022, Casemiro moved to Manchester United.
The Brazil captain has scored seven goals in 75 caps for his nation.
