Matteo Berrettini first Italian man to advance to Australian Open semifinals

ANKARA (AA) - Matteo Berrettini became the first Italian Tuesday to reach men's singles semifinals of the Australian Open.

Berrettini beat French Gael Monfils 6-4, 6-4, 3-6, 3-6, 6-2 at Rod Laver Arena.

The 25-year-old will face Rafael Nadal of Spain in the semifinals.

On the women’s side, No. 1 seed Ashleigh Barty of Australia defeated American Jessica Pegula to advance.

She won 6-2, 6-0 and will play Madison Keys of the US in the semifinals.
