Montenegro kicked off its traditional "laziest citizen" contest on Friday to decide the "laziest citizen" in the "long bedtime" contest.
The humorous traditional contest of the country began in the Ethno village of Brezna, located near Niksic city, with a record participation of 21 people to compete for a prize of 1000 euros ($1086.56) and the title of "laziest citizen."
The organizer of the competition, Mico Blagojevic, told the media that the contest was held for the first time 12 years ago due to the myths spreading that Montenegrin people are "lazy."
"So the whole world got to know us," said Blagojevic, adding that Dubravka Aleksic, who holds the 117-hour bedtime record set in 2021, is among this year's competitors.
According to the competition rules, the participants competing while lying down are allowed to sleep, meet their food and beverage needs, read books, and use the phone; standing up is considered a violation of the rules.
Competitors are allowed to meet their personal needs every 8 hours.
