Novak Djokovic ties Steffi Graf for most weeks as world no. 1 in tennis

Djokovic, Graf remain on top of singles rankings for 377 weeks each

By Can Erozden

ANKARA (AA) – With 377 weeks as the world no. 1 in tennis, Serbian superstar Novak Djokovic equaled former German player Steffi Graf, as ATP released the latest men's singles standings on Monday.

Djokovic, who won the 2023 Australian Open in January to have a record equaling 22nd Grand Slam singles title, has remained atop the ATP rankings to spend 377 weeks there.

Graf, who was one of the tennis greats and retired from the game in 1999, was a world no. 1 in women's singles rankings for 377 weeks.

Djokovic, 35, who needs one more week on top to be the record holder in this field, has returned to the top spot in men's standings for a seventh time after his victory in Melbourne.

Graf, 53, secured 22 major singles titles in her 16-year professional career.

She is still the only player to win a Golden Slam, which means Graf bagged all four majors (Australian Open, French Open, Wimbledon, and US Open) and an Olympic gold in the same calendar year.

Graf was 19 when she won an Olympic gold medal at Seoul 1988.

Djokovic has 7,070 points to keep his top position in the ATP rankings. His nearest opponent is Spanish star Carlos Alcaraz.

Alcaraz, 19, who won the Buenos Aires title – an ATP Tour championship – on Sunday, has 6,480 points. Stefanos Tsitsipas from Greece has 5,940 points to come third in standings.

The ATP is expected to update standings next Monday.
