ISTANBUL (AA) — Nottingham Forest secured their fifth straight win, marking their longest Premier League streak since 1995. Their fairytale season continues as Sunday's victory over Everton elevates them to second in the Premier League.
“I’m immensely proud. Especially when you see your player in the 90th minute miss a chance, run back, and recover the ball,” Forest Manager Nuno Espirito Santo said in his post-match news conference.
However, Santo stressed that the team had not "achieved anything yet."
Nuno Espirito Santo's men's fifth consecutive win propelled them past Chelsea and Arsenal, reaching their highest Premier League position since October 1994.
Nottingham Forest, who narrowly escaped relegation by finishing 16th and 17th in their first two Premier League seasons, are turning heads this season as the surprise contenders at the top of the table.
The iconic club, which ended its 23-year absence from the Premier League in 2022, thrilled its fans by defeating Huddersfield Town in the Championship Play-Off final.
The back-to-back European Cup winner in 1979 and 1980 has risen to an impressive second place in the Premier League standings with 37 points from 19 matches, trailing only leaders Liverpool, who have 45 points.
Forest's remarkable performance has become a talking point in a season in which traditional powerhouses Manchester City, Manchester United, and Tottenham struggle in sixth, 14th, and 11th positions, respectively.
- Chris Wood key player
Chris Wood has emerged as a key figure for Nottingham Forest, playing a crucial role in the team’s success since his arrival.
His prowess in leading the line and his substantial contributions to the team’s overall performance render him an irreplaceable asset.
Wood's journey through various clubs, notably his performance at Leeds United, has significantly shaped his career. His move to Nottingham Forest has been pivotal, and his contributions are becoming increasingly vital.
Chris Wood's move to Newcastle United in January 2022 for £25 million (approximately $36 million) marked a significant milestone, making him the most expensive Oceania player in history.
Last year, Forest strengthened their squad by securing Wood on a permanent transfer after clauses in his loan deal from Newcastle United were activated.
The New Zealand forward has scored 27 goals and provided two assists in 61 games so far, including 11 goals and one assist in 19 appearances this season.
The 33-year-old is widely regarded as one of the best signings of the season.
On Monday, Nottingham Forest will visit Wolverhampton Wanderers at Molineux Stadium as they look to secure their 12th Premier League win.
