Ohio governor makes pick to fill JD Vance's US Senate seat
Jon Husted to fill Senate seat being vacated by Vice President-elect JD Vance
By Diyar Guldogan
WASHINGTON (AA) - Ohio Governor Mike DeWine on Friday appointed his lieutenant governor, Jon Husted, to replace the Senate seat being vacated by US Vice President-elect JD Vance.
Vance officially resigned Ohio Senate seat last week before President-elect Donald Trump returns to the White House on Monday.
"I have worked with him, I have seen him. I know his knowledge of Ohio. I know his heart. I know what he cares about. I know his skills," DeWine said told reporters.
"All of that tells me he is the right person for this job," he added.
Husted, 57, will serve until 2026. If he wants to keep the seat, he must run in the November 2026 election to fill out the remainder of Vance's term, which ends in 2028.
