Palestinian succumbs to his injuries from Israeli army gunfire in West Bank

Death toll of Palestinians killed in West Bank since Oct. 7 climbs to 571, according to Health Ministry

RAMALLAH, Palestine (AA) - A young Palestinian man succumbed Sunday to injuries he sustained from Israeli army gunfire during an incursion into Jenin city in the northern West Bank.

Fawaz Hammad, the director of Al-Razi Hospital in Jenin, announced the death, saying that Ahmad Rashad Mahmoud Abu Al-Haija, 24, succumbed to his wounds inflicted during the Israeli aggression on Jenin and its refugee camp last Friday, according to the official Palestine news agency Wafa.

The agency reported that with Abu al-Haija's death, the number of Palestinians killed from the Israeli raid on Jenin last Friday rose to eight.

Last Friday, the Palestinian Ministry of Health reported that seven Palestinians were killed in the Israeli raid on Jenin, which lasted four hours and involved incursions from multiple entry points, besieging a house in the Hursh Al-Sa'ada neighborhood and shelling it amid clashes with Palestinians.

With the latest casualty, the number of Palestinians killed by the Israeli army in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, has risen to 571 since the outbreak of the Israel-Hamas war on Oct. 7 last year, with more than 5,350 others injured, according to the Ministry of Health.

Tensions have been high across the occupied West Bank since Israel launched a deadly military offensive against the Gaza Strip, which has killed more than 38,150 people since Oct. 7.

Israel stands accused of genocide at the International Court of Justice, whose latest ruling ordered it to immediately halt its military operation in the city of Rafah in the southern Gaza Strip, where over a million Palestinians had sought refuge from the war before it was invaded on May 6.
