Two new world records were set at the 2024 WANDA Diamond League track and field meeting in Paris on Sunday

Ukrainian athlete Yaroslava Mahuchikh broke the 37-year-old world high jump record of 2.09 meters with her jump of 2.10 meters (6.88 feet).

"I had had this record in my head for two years. After clearing 2.07 meters, my coach gave me the choice of continuing or stopping there. As I had felt very easy on my second attempt at 2.07 meters, I decided to go for it," said the 22-year-old.

Kenyan athlete Faith Kipyegon improved her own world record of 3 minutes 49.11 seconds in the 1,500-meter women's event with her time of 3 minutes 49.04 seconds.

"I knew from my good time at the Kenyan selections that I was fit enough to break the world record. The energy in the stadium was very strong, and it really pushed us to the line, with (Australian runner) Jessica (Hull)," said the 30-year-old athlete.

The 2024 Diamond League, organized by World Athletics, is the 15th season of the annual series of outdoor track and field meetings.

After the 8th leg in Paris on Sunday, the next leg will be held in Monaco on July 12.
