Rockstar postpones release of GTA 6 until May 2026

'We need this extra time to deliver at the level of quality you expect and deserve,' statement says

ISTANBUL (AA) - Video game giant Rockstar postponed the release of its most eagerly awaited game, Grand Theft Auto (GTA) 6, until May 2026.

"Grand Theft Auto is now set to release on May 26, 2026," Rockstar Games said in a statement on Friday.

Fans were waiting for the release of the action-adventure console game later this year, but the company said "We are very sorry that this is later than you expected."

"The interest and excitement surrounding a new Grand Theft Auto has been truly humbling for our entire team," the statement said, adding that the "goal has always been to "try and exceed" the expectations and that "we need this extra time to deliver at the level of quality you expect and deserve."

The game’s trailer was released in December 2023.

The previous installment in the series, GTA 5, came out 12 years ago in 2013 and sold around 210 million copies worldwide.
