ISTANBUL (AA) – Russian Prosecutor General Igor Krasnov arrived in Pyongyang, North Korea’s capital, on Monday for an official visit.

A video released by the Prosecutor General's Office captured Krasnov’s arrival, where he was welcomed by representatives of North Korea’s Central Prosecutor's Office.

According to a statement from the Prosecutor General's Office, Krasnov’s visit is the first by a Russian Prosecutor General to North Korea since the two countries began cooperating in this field.

“Russian and North Korean prosecutors have been maintaining a constructive dialogue for more than 10 years on the basis of a Cooperation Agreement signed in 2010,” the statement said.

During his visit, Krasnov will meet with his North Korean counterpart and discuss issues related to bilateral cooperation with other officials.

A cooperation program between Russia’s Prosecutor General’s Office and North Korea’s Central Prosecutor’s Office for 2024–2026, as well as an updated cooperation agreement, are planned to be signed, the statement added.

Since 2022, Russia, facing numerous Western sanctions, has been strengthening its relations with Asian countries, notably North Korea.

Most recently, Moscow and Pyongyang signed a comprehensive strategic partnership agreement during Russian President Vladimir Putin's first visit to North Korea in 24 years last month.
