Santi Aldama carries Spain to their 1st Paris 2024 victory in men's basketball match against Greece

Despite Giannis Antetokounmpo producing 27 points, Greece suffer loss with 84-77 result

ISTANBUL (AA) - Santi Aldama carried Spain to their first win as Spain defeated Greece 84-77 in a Group A men's basketball match at the Paris 2024 Olympics on Tuesday.

The first quarter ended 22-21 in favor of Greece but Spain claimed the second period with a 28-13 result at Pierre Mauroy Stadium, Lille.

Spain controlled the game in the third quarter to lead it 21-13.

Santi Aldama made a double-double with 19 points and 12 rebounds to carry Spain to their first win in Olympic Games.

Sergio Llull scored 13 points and seven rebounds while Willy Hernangomez scored 11 in the Spaniards.

Greece's Giannis Antetokounmpo was the game's highest scorer with 27 points and 11 rebounds.

Vassilis Toliopoulos helped his team with 14 points.

Meanwhile, two-time World Cup winners Spain had tipped off Group A with a defeat against Australia.


- Canada upset Australia

Canada defeated Australia in their second game with a 93-83 result and moved to 2-0 in their group ahead of a last match against Spain.

R.J. Barrett of Canada was the highest scorer of the clash with 24 points and seven rebounds at Pierre Mauroy Stadium.

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Dillon Brooks scored 16 points for Canada.

For The Aussies, Josh Giddey produced 19 points, seven rebounds, and six assists. Jock Landale made a double-double with 16 points and 12 rebounds.

On Friday, Australia will face Greece, and Canada will take on Spain in Group A.
