ISTANBUL (AA) – In a bold move, the South Korean military has resumed its anti-Pyongyang propaganda broadcasts, marking the first such action since June 9.
The decision comes in direct response to North Korea’s provocative launch of trash-filled balloons into the South, according to the country’s Joint Chiefs of Staff.
The anti-Pyongyang broadcasts were conducted from Thursday night until early Friday, Seoul-based Yonhap News reported.
This is the first time since June 9 that Seoul has launched anti-Pyongyang propaganda broadcasts near the border.
North Korea has launched more than 2,000 trash-carrying balloons since late May in response to anti-Pyongyang leaflets sent by North Korean defectors and activists in South Korea.
Pyongyang has also complained of similar launches of balloons by Seoul into the North, warning South Korea will pay a “gruesome” cost for such actions.
Meanwhile, former US President Donald Trump has said he “got along with” Kim Jong Un when the Republican presidential candidate for the 2024 elections was in office until 2020.
“We stopped the missile launches from North Korea. Now, North Korea is acting up again, but when we get back, I get along with him," Trump said, as he accepted the Republican nomination on Thursday, US time.
Trump claimed Kim would “like to see me back too.”
“I think he misses me," he said, adding: “It's nice to get along with somebody who has a lot of nuclear weapons.”
