Simone Biles withdraws from Olympics gymnastics team finals

ISTANBUL, Turkey (AA) - American Simone Biles decided Tuesday to pull out of the team gymnastics finals at the Tokyo Games because of a medical issue.

Biles, 24, had to withdraw from the competition after posting 13.766 on the vault apparatus during the women's team final at the Ariake Gymnastics Centre.

It was the lowest score of her Olympic career.

US Gymnastics released a statement after she left that said Biles suffered a “medical problem” and would be evaluated to determine if she could participate further in the Games.

The US women’s gymnastics team earned silver in Tokyo, with the Russian Olympic Committee taking gold. Great Britain took home the bronze medal.

Biles has won a total of 30 Olympic and world medals. She won four gold medals at the Rio 2016 Games.
