S&P, Nasdaq close higher to extend longest streak in 2 years

Oil prices plummet more than 2.3%

ISTANBUL (AA) - The S&P 500 and Nasdaq closed with gains Wednesday, extending their longest winning streak in two years.

The S&P 500 added 4.4 points, or 0.1%, to finish the day at 4,382 and rose for the eighth day in a row.

The tech-heavy Nasdaq increased 10.56 points, or 0.08%, to end the session at 13,650 -- extending its gains to nine consecutive days.

Both indexes recorded their longest daily winning streak since November 2021.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average, on the other hand, fell 40 points, or 0.12%, to finish the day at 34,112.

The VIX volatility index, also known as the fear index, fell 2.4% to 14.45. The 10-year US Treasury yield lost 1.6% to 4.499%.

The dollar index was steady at 105.54, while the euro added 0.1% to $1.0710 against the greenback.

Precious metals were in negative territory, with gold losing 1% to $1,950 an ounce and silver trimming 0.4% to $22.54.

Oil prices fell more than 2.3%, with global benchmark Brent crude at $79.72 per barrel and US benchmark West Texas Intermediate crude at $75.55.
