Taylor Fritz beats Alexander Zverev to reach 1st Grand Slam semifinal in US Open

Fritz, highest-seeded American men's player at No.12, advances with 3-1 result at Arthur Ashe Stadium

ISTANBUL (AA) - Taylor Fritz eliminated Alexander Zverev late Tuesday to reach his first Grand Slam semifinal at the US Open.

Fritz, the No. 12 seed and top-ranked American player, advanced to the final four with sets of 7-6, 3-6, 6-4 and 7-6 at Arthur Ashe Stadium.

The quarterfinal clash lasted three hours and 26 minutes.

Fritz will take on either world No. 20 Frances Tiafoe or No. 9 Grigor Dimitrov on Friday.

Emma Navarro advanced to the semifinals with a straight-set win over Paula Badosa on Tuesday.

Navarro, ranked 13, reached her first career grand slam semifinal with sets of 6-2 and 7-5 at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing, New York.

The American tennis star will face the winner of the match between Aryna Sabalenka and Qinwen Zheng in the semifinals on Thursday.
